"Everything is articulated. The eight puppeteers slaving above have found a way of making it seem that these puppets think" (LLoyd Dykk) |

The scripts (published in Teatro con i pupi siciliani) are written by Fortunato Pasqualino (who won the Pescara Prize '69, and the prestigious Flaiano Prize in '78), the direction is by Barbara Olson (L'arte dei pupi Rusconi ed. 1983). LuigizPasqualino, who coordinates the puppeteers behind the scenes, has enriched the
animation techniques. The puppets are wonderfully crafted (picture) by the sculptor, painter and puppeteer Francesco Cardello, by Angelo Cardello and by Michele Cimarosa. The costumes are designed and crafted by Angela D'Angelo, the scenes by the painter Marisa Fogliarini Farina. "The manipulators transfer from their fingers down through the wires and sticks to the marionettes an exact bodily expression to accompany the words that come from the stage. Elaborate and gestural, the puppets have a real presence, and when it came to swordplay -as it often did, to the delight of the children in the audience - they went at it at full tilt" (The Vancouver Sun, December 1990) (AT) with @ |
